Walking into Nayda Bonet’s, GaBa Coffee and Art located in Aguada, P.R. reminds me of the beautiful artsy coffee shops we have in Asheville, NC.
Nayda’s charming gallery is adorned wall to wall by some of the most creative pieces of artwork I’ve seen since I’ve been on the island. The business has such a peaceful and tranquil energy that as soon as you enter through the front door you know this is where you want to be to take a nice break from the heat. Bossa nova music played in the background as owner, Nayda Gonzales, told us about how her love for art inspired her to open this shop to, “bring these beautiful pieces and the immense amount of talented artists from Puerto Rico to the public’s attention.”
Her gallery has a little bit of everything:
• Full service coffee shop
• Original artwork from artists all across the island
• Handmade jewelry from local artists
• Soaps handmade by Nayda
• Sand sculptures
• Personally designed clothing by Nayda
With over 7 years of experience in painting, Nayda specializes in many different styles but her style of choice is expressionism. She plans to start up a hands-on-experience painting workshop in her gallery in which she’ll feature various styles and types of painting. In addition to selling her own artwork, Nayda welcomes any artist interested in selling their pieces to come talk to her about featuring their art in her gallery as a selling space. Below is a photo of Laura Shephardson of Rincon. She is one of the latest artists to be featured in GaBa Coffee and Art and specializes in watercolor painting. Laura also plans to start a painting workshop and might do it in conjunction with Nayda’s at the gallery.
Not only a painter, Nayda dabbles in many different artistic forms of expression as well. She is a fashion designer and can design an outfit custom made to personally fit you and your body type. She draws up the design and her aunt sows it, which I thought was really nice because it shows how important family is to her and her business. The pieces are also quite affordable, around $30 or so depending on the item. If art and fashion don’t fit your fancy, Nayda also makes soaps by hand with a laundry lists of scents, each one better than the last.
GaBa Coffee and Art’s coffee shop is a point of pride for Nayda and rightfully so because it is out of this world! Mom and I had the most delicious Rasberry White Chocolate Iced Latte and it was presented to us beautifully, complete with whip cream and mint sprinkles. The coolest thing about her coffee shop is that she only uses local Puerto Rican coffee called Gustos Café. Delicioso!
Future plans for GaBa Coffee and Art include bringing music and more outdoor seating to her front lawn as well as the aforementioned painting workshops, stay tuned for more details.
So if you are going to the Aguada area or simply want a little break from good ol’ Rincon, hop on over to GaBa Coffee and Art…. you’ll be glad you did. And as always, tell her “El Coqui sent you!”

Hi Isabel….I think you must be Rhea’s daughter. She says you do a lot to help El Coqui and to
keep up aware of current events…which I really need to know when I am down there Jan-April.
I would love to visit the GaBa Coffee & Art Gallery. You say it is in Aguada, but I do not see
a street address. Only a PO Box in Aquadilla…please help.
Also,,,I was just visiting in Maine at a Music Fest in Bangor.
I saw & spoke with a lady wearing a BANANADANG T shirt. Thanks
Hi Marcia,
GaBa doesn’t have a physical address but here are some directions on how to get there from Rincon:
.Head North on 115 toward Aguada
.go over the Pico de Piedra Bridge by the Balneario de Aguda
.continue on for approx. .5 miles until you get to the intersection that says “desvio” (bypass) DO NOT TAKE THE “desvio”
.keep straight and almost directly across the street from the “desvio” sign you will see GaBa’s sign (black with red lips)
GaBa’s is located right next to the “Juegos Inflaibles” store.
Hope that helps and you can always call GaBa for more information.

Thanks Coqui of Rincon. I see you soon in Gaba- Galeria Coffee and Art!
